Working out should be a lifelong endeavour. It is a powerful tool that can keep you healthy and feeling your best. But to truly embrace exercise as a lifetime habit, your mindset and how you feel about exercising are more important than the sweat equity you put in. After all, the most effective fitness routine is the one that will stick to. And learning to love exercise will help you stay consistent! You can’t do this if you dread your workouts and find them unenjoyable, can you? That’s why today, we are sharing our favourite ways of making workouts more enjoyable.
Workout With Others
Regular training does not have to be something you do by yourself! There’s comfort in knowing there are others who are on the ride along with you. Whether it’s a friend or a community of like-minded individuals, working out with others can make it more fun, lively and less lonely! You can provide each other with encouragement, inspiration and distraction (rest time gossip anyone?). If you're training at home, try including your family or children. Joining a workout class is another great way to connect with others while working out. Making new friends while getting in a good sweat session? That’s something we can get behind!
Entertain Yourself
Pairing your workouts with something you actually enjoy doing can help you dread your workouts less. For example, you could listen to a great podcast while you lift weights or talk to a friend while you are on your walk. Depending on the activity, you could even use your workout time to get some productive work done like answering emails, doing homework or reading a book. Time will fly by and before you know it, your workout will be over!
Mix Things Up
Boredom is one of the main reasons why workouts become less enjoyable. Don’t get stuck in the cycle of doing the same workout routine over and over again. Instead, throw yourself a curveball and try something new once in a while. This will not only help prevent monotony but will also challenge you in different ways. We like to include HIIT, strength and mobility or yoga into our members' weekly schedule. Trying new forms of exercise will keep you on your toes and help to reinvigorate your desire to work out!
Music!
This one is a given. Working out to your favourite tunes is one of the best ways to get pumped up and excited to give it your all. There is actual science between listening to music to make your muscles work harder and see better results. Don’t enjoy music? Then listen to podcasts or audiobooks. This is also another good form of distraction.
Make Sure You Are In An Optimal State to Work Out
There’s nothing worse than working out when your body is screaming “No!”. This can make working out very unpleasant. Feeling tired, hungry, sore, sick or in pain are some of the worst conditions to work out in. If you are not feeling your best, check in with yourself to figure out why. Maybe you need to have a small snack before your workout for some energy. Or maybe you need to have a better night’s sleep. Or maybe it’s best to just skip the workout on that day and rest instead. It’s not worth pushing yourself to complete a workout when you are feeling run down. Instead, try to problem-solve and take proactive steps to help you feel your best while working out.
Give these strategies a try and we are sure you will find your workouts more fulfilling and pleasant. If you want to step up your game and REALLY fall in love with working out, then join us!
