In this article, we are sharing our secret for curbing those sugar cravings. But first, a quick primer on why you get cravings in the first place.
When you eat sugar and processed foods, your blood sugar spikes. This gives you a rapid boost in energy and an equally quick crash. You probably know what this feels like; headaches, fatigue, endless hunger and of course, sugar cravings. As a result, you may turn to some type of sugary answer. And so the blood sugar roller coaster starts again.
How can you prevent this? It’s easy: make sure that all your meals have some protein, fat and fibre. Protein, fat and fibre all help to slow digestion and gradually release glucose into the bloodstream. This results in a gradual rise in blood sugar levels, preventing the rapid spikes and crashes that trigger sugar cravings.
