Have you started thinking about your New Year’s resolutions? The Sweat Nation team is buzzing with excitement over ours and we want to get you excited too! The secret to achieving your resolutions starts with first making good resolutions! The most successful resolutions are ones that are SMART. Here’s what that means:
So what are some examples of SMART resolutions? Well, here are 5 great health and fitness resolutions to consider:
Have Two Servings of Vegetables at Each Meal
Most diet-related resolutions focus on removing something from the diet (sugar, alcohol, meat, pleasure 😜). Why not try adding something instead? For starters, work towards adding two servings of vegetables to each meal. How much is a serving? A standard serving size is equivalent to one cup of raw vegetables or half a cup of cooked vegetables. To make it happen, try throwing them into your smoothies, have bigger salads and even sneak them into baked goods!
Move for 30 Minutes Each Day
Whether it’s lifting weights, a walk in the park, or a relaxing stretch, movement is a great way to get healthy in the new year. It does not have to be anything complicated or overly strenuous either. Just find a physical activity that you enjoy or try something new. You can even get your loved ones involved in your movement routine to make it more fun!
Say One Positive Thing About Yourself Daily
The most important relationship that you have in your life is your relationship with yourself. Negative self-talk can be harmful to your confidence and mental health. Instead of being hard on yourself, make a conscious effort to identify one thing that you love about yourself or one thing you can say to motivate yourself every day.
Begin The Day With a Glass of Warm Water
Adequate hydration is so important for your health! You can read all about it here. Needless to say, reaching for a glass of water each morning before you begin your day is a great habit to cultivate in the new year! Warm water with lemon added is even better – it helps activate your body in so many ways like boosting your immune system, aiding in digestion and flushing fat soluble toxins.
7 Minutes of Focused Breathing Every Day
Breathing is one of the best stress management tools we have. It’s free, easy, and always with us! Spending just 7 minutes each day to engage in a breathing practice can do wonders for your mood and mental health. There are so many breathing techniques out there (diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing, the 4-7-8 technique etc.). Experiment with them and find one that works best for you.
These are the things that we will be working on in the new year. Join us and let’s make 2023 the healthiest year yet! Let us know what you will be working on in the comments below!
