Anyone else already excited about summer? Warmer weather means that we can finally take our workouts outside again. We love working out outside because it offers so many benefits, along with a welcome change of routine. If you need a little convincing, read on for three big reasons to get active outside!
Challenges Your Body
Indoor workout spaces such as gyms are predictable environments. Most are climate-controlled and filled with machines. When you work out outdoors, you are exposed to a constantly changing environment. In addition to different weather conditions, you are also forced to work out on different terrains. As a result, your body has to work hard to constantly adapt to the changing obstacles. And the harder you work, the more calories you burn and the more your muscles are engaged! Not to mention the added mental stimulation.
It’s Accessible
The best part about getting outside for a sweat session is that it is free and always available! Using the outdoors as your gym means that you don’t have to pay for an actual gym membership. You can get an effective workout whenever and wherever you want just by using your bodyweight and open space – or include some portable equipment like this best-selling band bundle. Everyone has access to some type of outdoor space close by. Parks, bike trails, stairs, jungle gyms, backyards, track stadiums, decks, beaches, parking lots and even building rooftops can all serve as great workout spaces. Make use of the variety of outdoor spaces available to you and have some fun with your workouts!
Boosts Mental Health
Exercise, wherever you do it, will have benefits for your mental health. But do it outside and these benefits only get better. When you work out outdoors, you are directly exposed to sunlight. The sun increases vitamin D levels and brain chemicals. This can help to enhance your sense of well-being and improve your mood. Working out in green spaces such as parks or nature trails can also reduce stress and make you feel more relaxed. When you’re in a better mood, you’re likely to enjoy your workouts more compared to working out in a gym. Sunshine, fresh air, scenic views and happiness? What’s not to like??!!
Maybe it's the incredible weather, or maybe it's the proven programing that's seen hundreds of members achieve their goals – but one of our most popular challenges is the Elite Summer Shred Maxed Out.
